The Right Way To Market Your MLM?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Monique and I asked Susanna Hess to share a story with us today and we really think you'll enjoy it:

Driving The Wrong Way Down a One Way Street...

A foreigner?

I am an American, living in Australia. Now in case you didn’t know, they drive on the opposite side of the road down under.

It took a lot of concentration to drive on the correct side of the road when we first moved here.

The biggest challenges came when making a turn.

As scary as it sounds, there were times, while I was behind the wheel, that I felt panic. Because for a few seconds, I couldn’t remember which side I was supposed to be on!

Now, not only is the vehicle on the opposite side of the road, but so is the steering wheel, which makes sense.

Furthermore, the blinker is on the opposite side of the steering column, as are the windshield wipers.

I can’t count the number of times my husband would turn on the windshield wipers when coming up to a turn. This would cause confusion while he tried to turn them off quickly, and turn the blinker on, while slowing down to make the turn.

Here we go again…

After living here about 2 years, we finally went back to America to visit family. We rented a vehicle in Oregon.

I didn’t have the luxury of riding around with my husband for a month, to get used to the other side of the road again.

My sister and I needed to run around town the day we flew in so I got behind the wheel and off we went.

I’m not sure how many times that day I was told that I was on the wrong side of the road, but it wasn’t pretty.

This is the town I used to live in so I was very familiar with it. I didn’t, however, know that one major road had been turned into a one way street.

Until I turned on it.

The wrong way.

The look on the face of the woman in the car, coming right at me… well I’ve only ever seen that look before in the movies.

I was worried about causing her hospitalization, not due to a crash, but due to a heart attack.

It was a very wide road, and thank the Lord, the oncoming traffic was a little ways back (…except for that one lady…). We managed to avoid collision and I was able to whip a quick U turn.

Okay, so why am I telling you all of this?

Well this is how it felt as I went from network marketing the old school way, to learning how to work it using attraction marketing, and the internet.

This is a huge transition. If you buy some materials, Mike Dillard’s stuff for example, you are hearing from some of the very best in the industry. That is great, learn from him and others like him.

As you learn and apply what you learn, don’t forget that they weren’t always where they are now.

Learn from them YES, compare yourself to them, NO.

This can be a devastating mistake to make as you begin to grow your business online.

Be yourself, apply what you learn as you learn it, in your personal style.

The fact that you are here right now, and reading this, means you have come a long way from where the vast majority of network marketers STILL are.

You might often feel like you’re driving on the opposite side of the road.

You might feel that panic.

It’s okay,  just keep your focus and keep driving.

If you find that you are going the wrong way down a one way street, flip a quick U turn and keep going.

Don’t stop. Whether you started today, several months, or even years ago. Don’t stop driving.

You are well ahead of most other network marketers. Remember that. Be encouraged by it.

Do not compare yourself to others. There is no point in that.

Compare yourself to what you want to be, and then work at getting there.

No matter what happens, don’t park the car. Keep going, keep driving, don’t quit.

Just wait, before you know it you’ll be driving like a pro.

  • Hi Josh, I was scared to try it for about a month when we moved here, so I know what you mean.

Glad you liked the story! Isn’t it funny how the better the story, the worse the actual experience is? Glad my story wasn’t any better! hahaha
